The Power of Presence
Jul 24 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

DESCRIPTION

The Power of Presence: Integrating presence into work, relationship and life

In this group, you will learn how to find refuge in “just this moment,” how to connect deeply with yourself and others, and to discover the joy of NEVER abandoning yourself. Our goal is to learn how to be deeply present and engaged with our lives, while also living from a spiritual and emotional center which is as solid as a mountain. The benefits of this work include new levels of peace, wisdom and compassion (especially for self).

This is an ongoing group, with the intention to create a sense of community, and to provide learning/inspiration to deepen your practice of Presence. We meet every other week. The commitment is for 6 months, though the hope is to have an ongoing group after that.

Integrative Yoga for Healing & Alignment
Jul 26 @ 8:30 am – 9:45 am

DESCRIPTION

Yoga is an ancient Indian healing tradition that utilizes a gently flowing integration of postures and breath, with an emphasis on accessing a calm and empowered body, mind, and heart.

This practice consists of stretching and strengthening joints, muscles, and tissues, as well as an exploration of breathing, relaxation, and mindfulness techniques.

Integrated Yoga for Healing and Alignment takes a classical approach–we move at a gentle, mindful pace with emphasis on breath with the intention of facilitating awareness, healing, and alignment.

Classes are appropriate for all levels of experience and can be modified for those with physical considerations.

Please bring a mat, as well as any other props that are beneficial for your practice. Some mats and props are also available for use at the center.

Gratitude Meditation
Jul 26 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

DESCRIPTION

Gratitude is much more than a word or gesture of thanks. It is a powerful mindset that can transform our relationships with everything and everyone around us.

Gratitude as a meditation technique is the element that unites the practices of non-harm with generosity. When we refrain from harm we cultivate kindness; when we practice generosity we give and receive freely. Gratitude is not possible without kindness (toward ourselves and others) nor without generosity (understanding the role of receiving).

These classes combine mantra and visualization techniques to help develop a baseline comfort with feeling and expressing gratitude. In time, they show us how to live with greater compassion, appreciation and joy.

Thursday Insight Meditation Sitting (TIMS)
Jul 26 @ 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm

DESCRIPTION

TIMS is a group of women and men who gather together each week to practice mindfulness meditation (Vipassana) as a community. While we focus on the Theravadan tradition of Buddhism, all practitioners are welcomed regardless of spiritual and religious affiliations.

The format is fairly simple: a meditation sitting followed by a Dharma talk. The sitting period is 30 minutes long and Dharma talks can range from 30-45 minutes.

We have no local teacher and value the simplicity this approach offers. Membership is the highest rank any of us achieve at TIMS.

Recorded Dharma talks are given by Gil Fronsdal or Andrea Fella of the Insight Meditation Center in Redwood City, California.

Lucid Self
Jul 31 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

DESCRIPTION

In a lucid dream you are aware that you are dreaming. The same is true in life.

To be aware is to not be consumed by the events around you. “Thinking” in this clear state means not getting lost in thoughts. Instead, there is awareness that thinking is happening. You are lucid.

When we are not aware, consciousness easily gets carried away by passing phenomena: the senses, images in the mind, emotions, and objects in the world. All of these things draw us in like a magnet.

Join us for these weekly classes where we explore what consciousness is, and what it is not. Greater freedom and stability of mind come with lucid awareness!
